The Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services carried out a 3-week training on advanced rice growing technology for 12 agricultural experts from 7 foreign countries as part of the efforts for mutual growth in collaboration with developing countries in the Global Age.
Said training was carried out from May 17 to June 6 with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government as an Official Development Assistance (ODA) program.
ODA programs are carried out by the government, a local government, or a public agency for the economic development and welfare promotion of developing countries as designated by OECD.
The trainees, who are experts specializing in rice growing-related policies and skills, came from the following countries: China, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Mozambique, Nepal, and Nigeria.
The training session focused on the theory concerning the production of high-quality, high-yield rice, practice for using sophisticated farming machinery, and inspection visits to exemplary farms. The training is expected to go a long way in the enhancement of the trainees'skills and the image of Korea as a country with advanced farming technologies.
The Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services conducted the global fellowship program for 18 trainees from 7 countries in 2013 and for 14 trainees from 8 countries in 2014.
KOICA's Global Fellowship Program, which is carried out in collaboration with domestic public agencies, research institutes, and universities, is received well by developing countries.
