Baekje Cultural Festival, one of the three best in Korea was held successfully in Gongju from Oct. 7 to Oct. 10. The Festival commenced in Buyeo in 1955, and has been held in Gongju and Buyeo, the ancient capitals of Baekje Dynasty, in turn since 1979.

The Festival celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, was held with the theme of “Baekje’s Fire, Geumgang River’s Light” and the slogan of “Time Travel to Baekje Dynasty ; an Invitation to Geumgang River” at Geumgang Dunchi Park and Gongsanseong Castle in Gongju, in which many programs were performed so as to allow citizens and visitors to experience it directly.

Events Were Performed Mainly at Nights, Loved by Many Domestic and Foreign Visitors
The 51st Baekje Cultural Festival was held as a historical festival that allow people to feel and experience the past and present and to have a future dream. Gongju Municipal Office converted the events mainly from the daytime to the night and from centering on the playground to centering on Geumgang River, which was a great success for the visitors.

About 240 thousand domestic and overseas visitors, including more than five thousand visitors from Japan, participated in the Festival. Even the lodging facilities in Gongju could not accommodate all of them sufficiently for the period so that some of them used hotels in Daejeon.
