The 34th Geumsan Ginseng Festival was held from September 19th to 28th at the Geumsan Ginseng Museum and the Ginseng & Herb Street under the unique theme of “the combination of ginseng, herbs, and health for which men always pray.” We can meet ginseng and ginseng farmers with a long tradition of enthusiasm at the festival site.

Insam Festival has been held annually in Geumsan County since 1981 and became established as one of the best national festivals. The ginseng festival proves its global competiveness by winning several awards.

Geumsan was selected as a cultural and tourism festival city by from the International Festival and Events Association (IFEA) in 2010 and won the Pinnacle Award for six consecutive years. Thanks to the rising popularity of the festival, it successfully attracted 810,000 local and foreign tourists this year.

The 34th Geumsan Ginseng Festival was held with the theme of “You are going to have a healthy future when traveling Geumsan” Along ginseng tasting events, the festival held several special exhibitions and set up booths where people and families could try various health therapies.

By expanding family focused events such as family zones and the fair ladies’ booth where people could try cosmetic therapies and hands on activities, the festival could satisfy various visitors from adults to kids.

The most representative program at the Ginseng Festival is the pulling of ginseng roots. It is very popular because people can experience ginseng harvesting at the ginseng fields and also purchase them at affordable prices.

The health therapy booth was upgraded by introducing worldwide traditional therapeutic methods, including Mongolian chiropractic. There were many events in which families could participate. Kids played at the gigantic bubble pit and sat in awe of the magic bubble show.

The fair ladies’ booth provided many kinds of handson activities such as oriental steam therapy, making DIY beauty products, facial and hand massages, and magic mirror events. The expanded festival with additional events were very successful and favorably reviewed.

The 34th Geumsan Ginseng Festival was favorably reviewed in that all three purposes of getting health information through exhibition, experiencing with various events, and shopping were sure to please visitors.

The festival provided a big boost to the local economy. A total of 35 buyers from 11 countries participated in the International Ginseng Symposium, which generated US$15,800,000 in trades. These figures further demonstrate that the ginseng festival is the leading event of industrial cultural tourism.

In 2015, the Geumsan Ginseng Festival is scheduled for October 2nd through 11th. Geumsan County plans to utilize the festival’s strengths to attract overseas private investment by focusing on county branding to measure, build and manage the reputation of the added symbolic value of health products.
